June is usually the wettest month of the year, giving the prairies a good dose of rain as the summer stretches on, but this month was a bit drier. Environment and Climate Change Canada took a look at their data, gathering up the rainfall totals from a number of systems that passed through Estevan.

The total is a lot lower than what we usually get, says Meteorologist Crawford Luke.

"In a typical June, Estevan would see about 85 millimetres of rain or so, and what we saw this June was 18.6 millimetres. So definitely a lot drier than normal, which I'm sure people are well aware of."

Despite the lack of rain, the southeast as a whole was fairly active, with a number of thunderstorms passing through the area and missing Estevan.

That included some serious systems in the middle of the month, with three tornadoes popping up in the area on June 19th.

Temperatures are also tracked over the course of June, with Luke pointing out that we got a bit more heat than expected.

"It looks like temperature-wise, on average, it came out maybe slightly warmer than the average. So the long-term average is a daytime high of 22.7 and an overnight low of 10. This June, we saw an average daytime high of 23.5 and an average overnight low of 9.6. So fairly close to average."

July has the chance to make up some moisture as systems are overhead beginning tomorrow and lasting until the end of the week. Check out the forecast anytime on our Hail-Otto CARSTAR weather page.
