Red Deer Pride Week celebrates connection, inclusion and 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Red Deer Pride Week runs from July 5 to 13 and features a diverse lineup of events.

From family-friendly celebrations and art showcases to drag performances, panel discussions and the annual Pride March and Block Party, the week is all about amplifying queer voices, celebrating diversity and fostering connection.

This week-long celebration is a collective effort by local queer organizations, community members and businesses committed to supporting, uplifting and protecting the rights and well-being of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The Pride Week festivities aim to foster inclusivity, raise awareness and promote the values of acceptance and solidarity.

Throughout the week, attendees can look forward to a range of events that serve as a reminder of the importance of inclusion in all spaces from schools and workplaces to public life and beyond.

Highlights of Red Deer Pride Week include:

  • 2-Spirit Powwow: Honouring the traditions and contributions of 2-Spirit people through dance, music and ceremony in a space of respect and celebration.

  • Educational workshops: Featuring guest speakers and panels on how to be better allies and advocates for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and inclusion.

  • Queer Prom: A joyful, affirming celebration for all ages, a space to dance, express yourself and make new memories.

  • Pride socials and networking events: Opportunities for community members and allies to connect, share experiences and build lasting relationships.

  • Burlesque and drag showcase: A dazzling evening of performance art that celebrates body positivity, self-expression, queer artistry and the power of living out loud.

  • Inclusive church service: A welcoming spiritual gathering affirming love, faith and inclusion for all, regardless of gender or sexuality.

  • Interactive events: Drag Bingo and Drag Bowling, hosted by local drag performers bringing comedy, flair and fun to the games.

The week will culminate in the highly anticipated Capstone Pride Block Party on Saturday, July 13, a community-wide celebration bringing together people of all ages, backgrounds and identities.

The block party will feature a Drag Walk, live music, food trucks, local vendors and a family-friendly atmosphere.

It’s a chance for Red Deer to come together, celebrate Pride and show meaningful support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

“Red Deer Pride Week is a powerful reflection of what can happen when queer organizations come together with a shared vision of joy, education and resilience,” said Alisha McManus, a member of The Queer Agenda.

“Through deep collaboration between the queer community, local partners and allies, this week will offer a vibrant mix of celebrations, storytelling and learning opportunities that honour the richness of our 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences in Central Alberta. Pride is important because it reminds us that progress is built in true community through connection, creativity and the courage to show up for one another.” adds McManus.

The collective encourages everyone to get involved whether by attending events, supporting local businesses or volunteering time.
