The MacGregor Fair made a big return this past weekend, delivering a full three days of festivities that brought together families, horse lovers and music fans for one unforgettable celebration.
Hosted by the MacGregor Agricultural Society, this year’s event marked 140 years of tradition in the heart of the small prairie town, and the community came out in full force to celebrate.

Friday night kicked off with music and horses
Things got rolling Friday, June 27, with the sweet smell of local eats filling the air and the sound of live music setting the tone. Local food booths opened early at 5 p.m., while the beer gardens buzzed with neighbours catching up.
The horse games drew big cheers, and from 7 to 10 p.m., the band Busted had toes tapping and little ones dancing their way onto the stage. Riders and spectators alike enjoyed the laid-back start to the weekend before Saturday’s more competitive events.
Saturday was packed from morning to night
Saturday, June 28, lived up to expectations with a sunrise start and a full day of activity.
By 7:30 a.m., the Lions Pancake Breakfast had folks lining up for a hearty start, while community exhibits opened across the grounds. At 9 a.m., the streets filled for both the kids and main fair parade, and vendors began setting up shop.
The action picked up at 10 a.m. with horse shows, pony rides, and kids’ activities, plus the return of the ever-popular community baseball tournament. While teams played to win, the emphasis was on fun and fair spirit.
Carla Karlagurke, the Municipality of North Norfolk’s recreation director, shared her excitement about the strong turnout. “There were a ton of people this year, it really filled the whole fairgrounds,” she said.
One of the weekend’s major highlights came during Saturday’s horse competitions. Brandi Matheson and her horse Ice In the Zipper delivered a standout performance, taking home the Wayne Moore Championship title. A big congratulations to Brandi on an impressive ride.

Sunday closes the fair with relaxed Day
The fair wrapped up on Sunday, June 29, with a slower pace perfect for families looking to soak up one last day. From noon till 4 p.m., kids enjoyed pony rides and lawn games. While parents relaxed with food and live music.
Local artist Nathan Keys and Band played an afternoon set, with a closing performance from the Suzuki Violin Concert bringing the weekend to a beautiful finish.

Food favourites made a strong return
It wouldn’t be a true fair without the food, and local vendors delivered. Hampton Café, Nacho Mommas, and Hopes Journey Home were among the favourites keeping bellies full and smiles wide.
Nacho Mommas’ ribbon fries and tacos were a hit, while Hopes Journey Home served frozen treats that had kids lining up for seconds. And of course, all the classics were there: burgers, fries, and everything in between.
With sunshine, smiles, and strong community spirit, the MacGregor Fair once again proved why it’s a must-attend summer tradition for locals and visitors alike. Here's to another 140 years of fair fun.
