A Medicine Hat man has been found not guilty on a litany of charges after his trial last week in Swift Current.
Nicolas Belanger appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court last Tuesday and Wednesday, facing criminal charges stemming from an alleged assault involving a firearm that was reported to have taken place in October 2024.
The 36-year-old was found not guilty on all 10 counts, including;
Assault with a weapon,
Carrying a concealed weapon,
Use of a firearm in a careless manner,
Pointing a firearm at another person,
Possession of a weapon,
Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life,
Intent to commit an indictable offence while masked, and
Three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
An additional matter of Belanger's, which includes another 10 counts, is set for trial on July 25.
His charges in the separate matter include;
Two counts of assault causing bodily harm,
Theft of a 2008 Ford F150,
Theft of $3,000,
Use of a firearm in a robbery,
Break-and-enter to a residence,
Intent to commit an indictable offence while masked,
Uttering threats, and
Three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
