Another candidate has put in their bid to become the new mayor of Strathmore.
Late last month, local business owner Jason Hollingsworth announced that he would be running in the municipal election, which takes place in October.
Hollingsworth came to Strathmore around 25 years ago to open up a chiropractic clinic with his life.
"Even though we've grown, our favourite part is that Strathmore still feels like a small town," said Hollingsworth. "People will greet you with a smile and ask you how you're doing, whether you know them or not."
Hollingsworth ran for mayor in the 2021 municipal election, losing to incumbent mayor Pat Fule. Since that time, he has expressed gratitude for the connections he made in the community.
"I felt it was going to be a one-and-done. It wasn't easy putting myself out there," added Hollingsworth. "But then I was presented with an opportunity and a plan about two years ago."
The candidate will be running on several platforms, including fiscally conservative budgeting and promoting local businesses.
"I'd like to see Strathmore developed as a municipal hub, as well. I think of areas like Banff, Medicine Hat, and Drumheller that have a lot of day surgeries, advanced imaging, and I'd like to see Strathmore developed that way."
Hollingsworth would also like to see Strathmore as a post-secondary hub and be maintained as a family-friendly place to live.
"Conserving green spaces, making sure there are recreational opportunities, that's what I'm looking at for this election."
Hollingsworth and Fule are the only two candidates to enter their bids to become mayor. The nomination deadline to run for mayor or council is September 22.
