The Swift Current Wolverines are back in the playoffs.
19 days since concluding their regular season, the Wolverines have had to scoreboard watch to see if they made the dance.
That watch concluded last night with Saskatoon falling 23-3 to Prince Albert.
Swift Current finishes a point ahead of the Swat for the third and final playoff spot in the junior Prairie Gold Lacrosse League.
"It was kind of a little bit of a long couple of weeks for the guys and for everybody involved," said Wolverines Head Coach Kevin Schafer. " We were kind of done our games early and resting up hoping that we were going to get this opportunity."
The Wolverines now match-up with Moose Jaw on Saturday in a one-game league semifinal. The winner faces Prince Albert in the championship series.
Moose Jaw won three out of four games between the two clubs this season.
"They've kind of had our number this year," Schafer said. "Not for lack of effort on our end or anything like that. They do have a couple guys. They've got the leading scorer Ryder Gilroy. He's a very dynamic player on both sides of the ball. They've got guys who can move the ball there. Our defence will have their hands full, but we've made some good adjustments i the last half of the season since we played them last."
The Wolverines are confident their scoring punch is in place for the playoffs.
"Our offence is clicking towards the end of the year," Schafer said. "We found some chemistry and some guys really working well together. We're hoping that will continue on."
Swift Current has been to the league final in back-to-back season. That includes a win over Moose Jaw in the 2023 semifinal.
That experience is something they will lean on.
"I think that'll definitely play a role in in thing," Schafer said. "We got a few bodies back on the defensive end of things too. That's really going to help out. We'll definitely rely on some of our experience and as the game goes on, hopefully that will shine through, and we'll be on the good side of things."
Their game is set for Saturday night at 7:00 PM from Kinsmen Arena in Moose Jaw.
