The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens Basketball program is entering a new era with the hiring of Dante Dinter as head coach for the 2025–26 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
Dinter, who previously served as an assistant coach with the MacEwan University Griffins of U Sports, takes over the role following the departure of Avery Harrison.
“We are excited to welcome Dante to RDP,” said Randy Stewart, manager of athletics and student life at Red Deer Polytechnic. “With both playing and coaching experience at the post-secondary level, Dante is well equipped to foster a supportive environment that empowers student-athletes to develop their skills and reach their potential.”
Dinter brings a strong coaching background to the Queens. In addition to working alongside Griffins head coach Katherine Adams, he led the Jasper Place High School program and served as program director and coach for Edmonton’s ITD Panther Basketball Club.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes holistic development, focusing on academic success, leadership, and personal growth alongside athletic performance. A former student-athlete himself, Dinter played post-secondary basketball with both the Keyano College Huskies and the NAIT Ooks.
“My vision is to recruit student-athletes committed to growth, building a strong team around returning talent at Red Deer Polytechnic,” said Dinter. “Personalized development plans will enhance their academics, skills and leadership. This approach nurtures high-level contributors on the court and within the community while re-establishing the program’s championship pedigree.”
Dinter said he’s also focused on fostering a positive, inclusive culture that empowers players as leaders on and off the court.
Dinter officially begins his role as head coach of the RDP Queens on July 7.
