A routine gas station stop paid off in a big way for a Caroline couple.
Branden and Nicole Fay rarely play the lottery, but during a stop in Eckville, they picked up a LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket—and ended up winning $100,020 in the May 9 EXTRA draw.
“I opened the cupboard and saw that we had forgotten to check the ticket, so I did it,” said Nicole. “I used some pretty choice words, and then I called Branden!”
Branden, who was in a work meeting at the time, said he was shocked to see 15 missed calls from his wife.
“My heart was racing—thinking something had happened at home,” he said with a laugh.
The Fays matched the last six digits of the EXTRA number to win the prize.
The couple said they’re still in disbelief, but they already know the first stop they’re making: the bank.
“We’re not too sure what we want to do with it yet,” said Nicole. “It’ll just go into savings for now.”
“It doesn’t feel real,” added Branden. “We’re still in a bit of shock.”
