A 53-year-old man has been arrested in Maple Creek after RCMP allege he defrauded a woman of more than $100,000 in what police describe as a romance scam.
Michael Paul Snow was taken into custody on June 24 in Maple Creek following a Canada-wide warrant issued by Sunshine Coast RCMP. He has been charged with fraud over $5,000.
The investigation began in June 2023 when a woman on the Sunshine Coast reported that a man she had met online had convinced her to invest $110,000 in what turned out to be a non-existent business venture. Police say the man spent several months gaining the woman’s trust before defrauding her.
RCMP say additional victims have been identified over the course of the investigation.
Snow has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Sechelt Provincial Court on Aug. 13.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have had similar dealings with Snow to contact their local police.
