For the tenth year, the City of Swift Current took part in the pride flag raising ceremony as a part of more than half a dozen events taking place this week to celebrate Pride Week.

Jesse Koethler, board chair for Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, shared that Pride Week officially kicked off with the flag raising at Market Square on Monday morning, followed by cookie decorating and sticker making.

"It is not lost on us how special it is that we get to do this," she said. "We greatly appreciate the City of Swift Current for working with us on our initiatives, like Pride Week."

This week's events include;

On Tuesday, folks can enjoy an outdoor decompression session at 6:00 p.m. with Sage Creek Prairie School.
Wednesday includes Queer Trivia at Lucky Charlie's Pub & Pool and a parents support meeting at the Pride Centre, both at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday features Rainbow Bowling at 6:00 p.m. at the Social Bowl.
Friday will include a Dungeons and Dragons open house and One-Shot Campaign at the Pride Centre at 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday, there will be a pride booth at Market Square from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the pride march at noon, and an annual drag show at 8:00 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre.
Then on Sunday, a gender affirming clothing swap will take place at the Pride Centre at 1:00 p.m.

Additionally, Southwest Saskatchewan Pride recently repainted their rainbow crosswalk on Central Avenue North just last weekend, and the Big Gay Dance party was held on Friday evening at the Lyric Theatre.

"We appreciate your passion towards inclusiveness, inclusion, education, and awareness," said Swift Current City councillor, Bruce Deg. "As a community, it's important to come alongside those who are marginalized and show support to one another."
