Kay was born on July 4, 1942, in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, and attended Elmwood Elementary School, and SCCI Collegiate in Swift Current.
Kay first met Johnnie in the summer of 1957 at Docks Dinner on Railway Street in Swift Current. Johnnie was driving a cement truck and stopped for a cold coke and instantly noticed kay sitting with her girlfriends. Johnnie walked straight over to Kay, asked her to join him at a ballgame at Westmount field, and thus the many adventures of Kay and John began.
Kay and Johnnie were married on May 20, 1961, at the First United Church in Swift Current. They were blessed with three children: Kevin, Johnny, and Kelli. In 1971, they moved to the farm. Kay settled into life on the farm, and was very busy running her children one way or another for sports and activities. In May of this year, Kay and Johnnie celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
Kay was first employed as a secretary at Century Motors in Swift Current, and later at Central Motors in Medicine Hat. She took on the role of secretary for Froese beverages, and later went on to work for the Big Gallon Carwash, and Superior Propane. On April 1, 1990, Kay and Johnnie purchased Kruse Glass and Aluminum where she was the office manager for 18 years.
Kay was a very active community member. She was involved in a variety of organizations in Swift Current: Beta Sigma Phi, Meals on Wheels, The Independent Order of Foresters, and the Saskatchewan Watershed. Kay canvassed for Diabetes Canada, and was an enumerator for many years. One of Kay’s annual volunteer rotations was the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Bell Campaign, and for eighteen years, Kay was the office manager for the Swift Current Bronco’s.
Kay’s number one priority was time spent with her family and friends. Everyone was welcomed; everyone was loved. She loved the outdoors and spent her spare time camping, fishing, and golfing. Kay loved to travel and explore the world with Johnnie. In 1988, Kay and Johnnie bought a cabin at Lac Pelletier where they provided a beautiful lake front haven for their growing family to enjoy, and make everlasting memories, which we did for 27 wonderful years. Kay’s life story would not be complete without the mention of their dear friends Grace and Bill Bowman of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The families spent many years together raising their children, often camping up north and out on a lake fishing. When the next generation of children came along, so did the annual July 1st Froese n’ Bowman reunion. Kay was always so grateful and felt so blessed for everything and everyone in her life. She always remarked how fortunate she was, or how fortunate we are as a family. This is something she has passed on to all of us, and we are so fortunate to hold that saying near and dear to our hearts.
