A new recreation field could be coming to Lacombe County, and residents are invited to share their ideas.

Lacombe County is inviting the public to an open house tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lacombe County administration building.

The Abma family donated the property — a gravel pit located near the intersection of Township Road 410 and Range Road 275 — to Lacombe County in 2012.

One of the conditions of the donation agreement was that the land would be used for recreational purposes to benefit the public once gravel extraction activities were completed.

With aggregate extraction nearing completion, Lacombe County has hired a professional planning and design consultant to create a vision for reclaiming the site and transforming it into a new public recreational area — and wants resident input.

The open house is a chance for residents and stakeholders to:

  • Meet with the County’s consultant and staff

  • Explore early design concepts

  • Share your ideas for the site’s future

  • Provide input on potential amenities and features

Unable to attend in person?

The Lacombe County website will host an online survey from July 15 to Aug. 7. The survey mirrors the in-person content and offers an opportunity to share feedback and vision for the reclaimed site.

Visit the Lacombe County website for the survey, background information and concept designs.
