Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued a tornado watch for Cochrane and surrounding areas as conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce isolated tornadoes on Wednesday evening.
The watch was lifted by approximately 8 p.m.
The alert warned of a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Along with the risk of tornadoes, storms may bring strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall.
"Severe thunderstorms in the area have a slight risk of producing an isolated tornado early this evening," Environment Canada stated in its advisory.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and be ready to act quickly if threatening weather approaches. If a tornado warning is issued or if you spot a funnel cloud or rotating storm, take shelter immediately.
The safest location is an interior room on the lowest level of a sturdy building, away from windows and exterior walls.
Mobile homes, vehicles, and tents do not offer safe protection during a tornado and should be abandoned for more secure shelter if possible. If caught outside with no safe shelter nearby, lie in a low-lying area and cover your head to protect against flying debris.
