Bragg Creek is gearing up to celebrate one of its most cherished annual traditions, Bragg Creek Days, set for Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20.

The weekend kicks off bright and early Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, followed by the much-loved parade, which organizer Ramonde Maxfield describes as "grassroots and full of charm."

“It’s not your big city parade,” Maxfield said. “It’s small-town, heritage-style with local businesses, community groups, horses, and classic cars. And yes, there’s candy!”

Once the parade wraps up, the classic cars will stay on display for a mini show-and-shine, and the festivities continue at the Bragg Creek Community Centre grounds. There will be kids’ games, live music all day on the Calgary Stampede’s trailer stage, and a beer garden for the adults. An outdoor market will also showcase local vendors.

“We’re lucky to have the Stampede stage again this year, and we’ll have live music throughout the day. It’s a great chance to sit outside, soak up the sun, and let the kids have fun,” Maxfield said.

Saturday also includes a few unique attractions, free pony rides from 2 to 4 p.m. courtesy of the historic Bragg Creek Trading Post, and a bear spray training demo by WildSmart. Using a moving bear replica, attendees can test their reaction time and learn how to properly use bear spray.

“You always wonder, ‘Could I actually use this if I needed to?’” said Maxfield. “This gives people a chance to find out in a safe, hands-on way.”

And yes, the pie-eating contest is back. Local leaders will go head-to-head in a friendly, messy competition, keeping the fun and tradition alive.

On Sunday, things wind down a bit with sidewalk sales and specials from local shops and restaurants, plus a charity golf tournament hosted by the Bragg Creek Community Foundation.
