The Cochrane & Area Humane Society’s Summer Tails 50/50 raffle is back, and it could mean a jackpot of up to $125,000.

Every ticket helps fund medical treatment, rehabilitation and shelter for animals who have been abandoned, injured or neglected.

The shelter is hoping to raise $250,000, with half going to one lucky winner and the other half going directly to animals in need.

“We’ve had a huge influx lately of animals requiring serious medical care,” says Robyn Roy, communications coordinator for the Humane Society.

“We’ve had several amputations, ligament and knee replacements, and animals coming in rough shape.”

In just the past few months, animals have been found injured on the roadside or pulled from house fires who are now living healthy, happy lives thanks to the Humane Society.

“We rely heavily on our fundraisers and events,” Roy says.

“Our raffles and lotteries are probably the biggest way to contribute financially to the shelter.”

The raffle is open to Alberta residents only, and the draw deadline is August 24, with the winner announced August 25.
