Ecole Olds Elementary School (EOES) is welcoming a new principal.

Greg Ferris has been serving as a Student Services Coordinator at the division level. In the fall, he will be the Principal.

"Greg says he has loved working with the team in Student Services together with school staff to ensure schools are calm, confident and connected - and supportive of students with diverse learning needs. He has loved seeing many success stories," shared Chinook's Edge.

At Olds Elementary, he is looking forward to working closely with the students, staff and community to ensure the EOES students feel valued, supported, and challenged in their learning journey.

"Olds is a great community, and I am blessed to be a part of it as Principal of EOES."

In Ferris's spare time, he enjoys walking his dog, exploring new coffee shops and farmers markets, and spending time with his partner.

"Greg's favourite movie is Freedom Writers, based on the book The Freedom Writers Diary, by Erin Gruwell and students."

"Greg appreciates that the story shows the power of inclusivity and relationship/connection in supporting all students, but especially those who are at risk."

At the end of the school year, the elementary school help their tradition "high five" walk to say goodbye to the grade four students as they move on to middle school.

The school division has 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury, Crossfield and Carstairs. Chinook's Edge has a total of 11,000 students across 40 Central Alberta schools.
