It will be a Western showdown with first place in the division on the line at Mosaic Stadium on Friday night when the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) host the Calgary Stampeders (3-1).
The Roughriders first bye week came a good time as Quarterback Trevor Harris will be back in the starting lineup. The Saskatchewan gunslinger missed the Riders win over the BC Lions on June 28 with a head/illness injury. Jake Maier filled in for Harris and didn’t turnover the football during the victory.
Even with a bye week, the Riders will have a couple of changes to their roster. Antoine Brooks Jr will get his first start at cornerback as he replaces Tevaughn Campbell. The Canadian cornerback provided the turning point in Saskatchewan’s win over BC after he intercepted Lions quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and returned it for an 89-yard touchdown. Campbell was placed on the one-game injured list with a groin injury.
Zach Fry will start at left guard replacing Trevon Tate, who was placed on the six-game injured list with a shoulder injury.
Running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon was also placed on the six-game injured list with a thigh injury. Ka’Deem Carey will be back on the Roughriders roster. He played in Week 2 against Hamilton with Bertrand-Hudon out of the lineup, but he was the odd-man out for the last two games.
Saskatchewan is the lone undefeated team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Last week the Stampeders handed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their first loss of the 2025 campaign, and this week they will be doing the same to the Roughriders.
After going 11-24-1 for the last two seasons, the Stampeders have enjoyed a solid start in 2025 at 3-1. Vernon Adams Jr is third in the league in passing (1,025) through the first five weeks of the season after he was acquired from the Lions during the offseason.
Tonight’s game will also mark the first time former Stampeder Mike Rose will face his old club. The defensive lineman signed with the green and white after spending seven seasons in Calgary and helped the Stamps win the Grey Cup in 2018. Rose was also named an All-CFL on three occasions with the Stampeders.
