As part of Lacombe Days, the Lacombe Research and Development Centre is hosting an open house where residents and community members can learn about the science and research happening right here in Lacombe.
The open house will be held today, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is a drop-in event with activities happening throughout the day.
Attendees will be able to take part in hands-on demonstrations and displays, as well as explore the laboratories, livestock barns and fields.
Dr. Mueen Aslam, the Associate Director of Research, Development and Technology with the Lacombe Research and Development Centre, says it’s a real behind-the-scenes tour.
“I often hear when people are visiting here that, oh, we didn't know that you were doing this wonderful research so I think this is an opportunity for the public at large from all around central Alberta to visit us and see what wonderful work we are doing and that is producing the safe, healthy, nutritious food and also helping our farmers and producers.”
Tours will take place so people can see the labs, take part in some research, and learn directly from the experts and the scientists how their work helps farmers.
There will also be fun family activities, prizes, and a food truck on site from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for snacks and drinks.
Picnic tables will be set up so people can sit and enjoy the day.
It’s a chance to learn more about the science happening in Lacombe’s own backyard.
“The Lacombe Research and Development Center is proud to be part of this community, and we are inviting all folks to come in and learn about how our work supports local farmers and the food we all eat, and we are also looking forward to helping people see beyond their plate and discover new things about where their food comes from.” says Dr. Aslam about the open house.
Entrance to the Lacombe Research and Development Centre will be off Highway 2A, with signs guiding visitors to the parking area.
