A recent traffic initiative saw officers from across the province in Estevan earlier this week as officers checked to make sure people were driving safely.

On July 7th, Saskatchewan RCMP conducted a proactive traffic safety initiative, involving officers from the Carnduff and Estevan RCMP detachments, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Combined Traffic Services in Estevan, the Estevan Police Service, and conservation officers and members from the highway patrol through the Provincial Protective Service Branch.

Among the locations looked at by the officers was the Shand Access Road near the Estevan Motor Speedway, which had a large crowd that night for Estevan's stop on the Dakota Classic Modified Tour.

Officers were checking for unsafe driving behaviours, including impairment by drugs and alcohol. Around 600 vehicles were checked between 6 p.m. and midnight on July 7.

No charges were handed out by the Saskatchewan RCMP for impairment by drugs or alcohol, along with no roadside suspensions.

The Saskatchewan RCMP gave their thanks to everyone who helped keep the Estevan area's roads safe.
