Break out the ugly stick and grab your best bait, Saskatchewan’s annual Free Fishing Weekend is set for July 12 and 13.

No licence is required to fish anywhere in the province this weekend, except within national parks. A valid licence is still needed to transport fish out of Saskatchewan, and all other regulations, including possession limits, remain in effect.

Anglers are reminded to fish safely, wear life-jackets, practice safe boating, and, most importantly, have fun.

“Saskatchewan is renowned for its world-class sportfishing, and we encourage everyone to enjoy a truly remarkable experience,” Environment Minister Travis Keisig said in a release. “Free Fishing Weekend is the ideal time to discover the province’s incredible fishing opportunities and enjoy the outdoors.”

This will be the 36th annual Free Fishing Weekend, which began in 1989 to raise awareness of Saskatchewan’s diverse angling opportunities. A winter edition was added in 2015.
