A Summer-long garage sale is happening in support of the Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre (CACPC).
The CACPC in Red Deer is facing funding issues this year that may impact services.
The operation has had to reduce staff and operating hours, resulting in less capacity to provide crime prevention programs and services that support residents and partner organizations such as Crime Stoppers, MADD, Neighbourhood Watch, and Citizens on Patrol.
As a fundraising initiative, the CACPC has brought back its summer-long garage sale.
The garage sale is one of three annual fundraisers they host, alongside the Charity Check Stop and the Touch-a-Truck event.
This year’s garage sale marks the fifth time the fundraiser has taken place.
The community is welcome to drop off items at the CACPC building at #1, 4311 49 Ave (west side of the Baymont Inn) on the following schedule:
-
Mondays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
-
Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
-
Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Denise Rambow, the program and services coordinator with CACPC, says: "We are 100% funding ourselves; we used to get operational funding from the City of Red Deer, we no longer do so we're just trying to find a way, in order to raise some funds, so we thought that a good idea would be to have a garage sale, people would come down and support us either by donating or coming to shop.”
The public is welcome to the garage sale, which will be held every Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the CACPC office until the end of August.
“There's always new things every week because people are donating stuff, so even if you come down and you don't find something one week, you might find it at the treasure the next week,” says Rambow.
