The golfer who went viral for a physical altercation with former NHL player Nick Tarnasky is owning up to his actions in an apology video.
Trevor Ogilvie, a resident of Red Deer, posted the video to his Facebook account with the caption: “Went viral for the wrong reason. Time to move on.”
Ogilvie admits his wrongdoings, saying it wasn’t his finest moment, and that excessive alcohol played a role, commenting, "My mouth ran faster than my brain.”
The original viral video surfaced earlier in July showing a confrontation between Tarnasky and Ogilvie over slow play at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort, just outside Red Deer.
Ogilvie’s group allegedly refused to let Tarnasky’s group play through.
The disagreement escalated and, in the video, circulating online, Tarnasky is seen arguing with another man before Ogilvie rushes toward him.
Tarnasky lifts Ogilvie and throws him into a pond.
After Ogilvie gets back on his feet and re-engages, Tarnasky delivers a series of punches, shouting “bang” with each one, before tossing him a second time.
“Just one of those days where you should have kept the cart on the path, you know,” says Ogilvie of the incident.
Reaction to his video has been largely supportive. One commenter wrote, “A man with an admission of guilt and taking accountability. Hard to do.”
“I’d like to apologize to all the folks on the course, anyone caught up in it and anyone who had to deal with me that day,” Ogilvie said in the apology video. “I lost my cool, and I’ve learned from it.”
The Red Deer Minor Hockey Association had recently announced Tarnasky’s return as head coach of the U17 AAA North Stars for the 2025–26 season.
The organization says it is conducting its own investigation while RCMP say they are not involved, as no formal assault complaint has been made.
