Rocky View Schools (RVS) is receiving five more modular classrooms from the province—but none are destined for Cochrane.
The Alberta government approved the additional units under its modular funding program, bringing the total number granted to RVS this year to 10, plus one relocated washroom.
“RVS appreciates the government’s continued commitment to addressing our overcrowded schools,” said Board Chair Fiona Gilbert in a release. “These five additional modular classrooms, along with those approved earlier this spring, will help us better serve our students while we wait for new schools to be built.”
RVS prioritizes modular classroom placements at schools experiencing the most urgent overcrowding and projected enrolment growth. Placement decisions are guided by enrolment projections, site suitability and the division’s long-term capital planning, including the anticipated opening of new schools
The newly approved modular units are headed to École Edwards Elementary School (Airdrie, two units), Ralph McCall School (Airdrie, two units), and Rainbow Creek Elementary School (Chestermere, one unit).
These are in addition to previously approved units expected to be in place by late fall 2025 at Nose Creek Elementary School (Airdrie, four units) and Rainbow Creek Elementary School (Chestermere, one classroom and one washroom unit)
The five new modulars are expected to be in place by spring 2026.
Gilbert noted the modular approvals show that the voices of RVS families and communities are being heard.
