The Lacombe Police Service is investigating a report of mischief after heavy construction equipment was damaged near the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.
On July 14, police received a report that multiple pieces of heavy machinery — including two excavators and a front-end loader — had sustained window damage while parked along 53 Street in a designated construction zone.
The equipment was last seen undamaged on July 12. The damage was discovered early in the morning of July 14.
Initial observations suggest the damage was caused by a small projectile.
Officers who attended the scene confirmed that the driver’s side windows of all three machines were damaged — one completely shattered and the others punctured and fractured.
The construction zone spans 53 Street from 54 Avenue to 56 Avenue.
Police have requested CCTV footage from the Gary Moe Arena and are awaiting the video for review.
The Lacombe Police Service is asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward. The public is reminded that damaging commercial or construction property is a criminal offence.
Increased patrols will be conducted in the area to prevent further incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lacombe Police Service at 403-782-3279 or their local police agency. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com.
