The 2025 Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships teed off Tuesday morning at the Humboldt Golf Club, bringing over 150 of the province’s top golfers to the region.
This marks the first time the Men’s Amateur Championship has ever been held in Humboldt. While the Women’s Amateur made a stop here in 2014 and the Mixed Championship followed in 2017, this week represents a significant milestone for both the club and the city.
“It’s great to be here for the first time ever for the men’s amateur championship,” said Clark Stork with Golf Saskatchewan. “The women’s was here in 2014 and mixed in 2017, but for the most part, this is a first—and it’s long overdue.”
The Humboldt Golf Club offers a unique challenge for the field, with what Stork describes as a “tale of two golf courses.”
“The first nine is a little bit more open and just over 20 years old. The trees are growing up, but the rough is still thick, so players have to find the fairway,” Stork said. “There’s been a bit of trouble off the first tee, but there are some scoring holes on the front side.”
However, the back nine presents a different set of challenges.
“As everyone knows, the back gets a little tighter with smaller greens and more mature trees,” he added. “It’s very unique that way—almost like playing two golf courses in one. That’s something you just don’t see very often.”
Stork emphasized how much behind-the-scenes effort has gone into making this week possible.
“Glenn, Al, Cory, Mike—the entire team here has done an unbelievable job,” he said. “This event’s been more than two years in the making. I was really happy to do some work to help get it here because I felt this club deserved to be showcased.”
He credited the course crew and volunteers for transforming the facility into championship shape. “The greens are rolling beautifully, the weather’s cooperated, and the number of hours this crew has put in is just incredible. Hopefully, everything goes off without a hitch.”
The tournament continues Wednesday with early tee times beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday will feature trophy presentations for the Mid-Amateur and Women’s divisions, while Friday’s final round will see the top 25 remaining contenders vying for the Men’s Amateur crown.
“It’s going to be a great three days ahead,” Stork said. “We’re in for a fantastic week of golf.”
