The 68th Amateur Hallonquist Rodeo is set to kick up some family-friendly competition this weekend with live music, beer gardens, and over a dozen events, including wild cow milking and native cow racing.
The annual rodeo is set for this Saturday, with team roping slack at 9:30 a.m., barrel racing slack at 11:00 a.m., and all other events kicking off at 2:00 p.m.
Rough stock and classic events include;
Bull riding,
Bareback,
Saddle bronc,
Native cow riding,
Tie-down roping,
Wild cow milking,
A hide race,
Breakaway roping,
Open barrel racing,
Junior barrel racing,
Open team roping, and
Junior team roping.
Prizes include buckles, and prize money ranges from $50 to $1,000, depending on the event.
Kids' events include;
Mutton busting for ages six and under,
Calf riding for ages 12 and under,
Peewee barrel racing for ages eight and under,
A kids' wild pony race for ages 12 and under, and
Goat tying for ages 16 and under.
Entry fees for competitors are $40 for adults, $25 for juniors, and $5 for kids' events.
Food trucks will be on site beginning at 10:00 a.m., beer gardens will be open, and the day will also feature live music from The Three Amigos.
Admission is $15 per person for adults, $10 for students, and kids get in for free. Proceeds from the rodeo will support local community projects.
The popular event is made possible each year with the help of more than 50 southwest sponsors, including SWT, Rawhide Supplements Ltd. in Swift Current, and Assured Drilling Ltd.
