More than $1.54 million in traffic safety grants have been awarded to 62 projects in 61 communities across Saskatchewan, including several in the southeast. All of the projects are aimed at improving traffic and pedestrian safety.

The funding comes from the latest round of grants through the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund.

Grants in this round range from $853 to $100,000.

"The Government of Saskatchewan and SGI are committed to delivering safer roads for everyone in Saskatchewan," said Jeremy Harrison, minister responsible for SGI. "This $1.5 million in provincial grants will enable 61 municipalities and First Nations throughout our province to deliver enhancements to traffic safety in their communities."

Local recipients include:

  • Village of Halbrite, speed awareness project: $8,634

  • City of Estevan, Wellock Road pedestrian crosswalk: $54,559

  • Town of Lampman, crosswalks on Main Street: $18,214

  • RM of Tecumseh No. 65, school zone speed awareness for the Town of Stoughton: $12,635

  • Village of Torquay, intersection safety program: $1,423

Grants are awarded twice a year using proceeds from photo speed enforcement. Since the program launched in 2019, more than $14.5 million has been awarded to 918 projects across the province.

To be eligible, projects must focus on at least one of the following traffic safety priorities: speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, occupant protection, intersection safety, aggressive driving, vulnerable road users or medically at-risk drivers.

The selection committee includes representatives from the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, the Prince Albert Grand Council, the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Highways and SGI.

Applications for the next round of funding are now open. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30, 2025.
