Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships continue at the HGC

The second day of the 2025 Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships brought more top-tier golf to the Humboldt Golf Club, as the women wrapped up their second round and the men continued their push. With players navigating one of the province’s more distinctive layouts, the course once again proved both challenging and rewarding.

Humboldt Golf Club Vice President Dave Hill noted that the club’s unique layout is playing a significant role in shaping the leaderboard.

“Golfers are seeing one of the most unique features of our course that we enjoy and embrace,” Hill said. “Of course, the Front nine was built and opened in 2000, and the design is much different than the back 9 — the old nine, as we call it, the traditional nine here.”

The contrast in design is something competitors are adjusting to as they move through the course.

“Back nine, you're going to get a lot of very tight fairways, a lot,” Hill continued. “Out in the front nine, we saw a lot of really good scores yesterday. A lot of these guys can really bomb it and take advantage of even the longer yardages but also take advantage of the bigger greens and the putting.”

The top of the men's leaderboard showcased some elite scoring on Tuesday. Corey Bailey of Saskatoon leads the field at 8-under after a scorching 64. He’s followed closely by two golfers from Saskatoon, Lucas Sturgeon at 6-under (66) and Jack Maharaj at 5-under (67).

Humboldt-area players are holding their own as well after the first round. Paul Raycroft turned in a solid performance and sits at 2-under. Tryce Wallin is just above par at 73, while Mike Herperger remains in the mix with a 2-over 74. Todd Marcotte (78) Theran Wallin (80), Spencer Hill (81), Carter Timmerman (81), Mike Angelstad (82), Drew Dale (85) and Tyler Lindal (85) round out the local contingent.

On the women's side, the second round wrapped up early on Wednesday, and Chloe Wills of Kyle, SK has the lead after a 2-over round today. Her two-day total puts her at 1-under par. Right behind her is Yorkton’s Ella Kozak, who stayed steady with an even-par round and now sits two shots back at 1-over. Winnipeg’s Charmaine Hayden carded a 4-over round to fall to 8-over par.

With the sun shining and the Humboldt hospitality on full display, Hill praised the atmosphere surrounding the event.

“Golf Saskatchewan has their tents set up, and it looks like a real first-class tournament,” he said. “We’ve set up some nice tables and chairs behind the 18th hole so people can come here, order their lunch, take it to-go, and watch some great golf at the finish.”

As the championship continues through the week, all eyes will remain on the shifting leaderboards and the way players handle the course’s split personality.
