A 64-year-old Rocky View County man is facing multiple charges after Cochrane RCMP seized more than $300,000 in stolen property — including high-value medical lasers — and a quantity of illicit drugs during a raid on a rural property.
The search took place on July 15 and stemmed from intelligence received from the RCMP Auto Theft Unit.
Recovered stolen property includes:
-
A 2023 Dodge Ram pickup;
-
A 2013 Triumph Thruxton 900 motorcycle;
-
A holiday and utility trailer;
-
Two high-value aesthetic laser devices, stolen during a break and enter in Calgary in 2024, with an estimated combined value exceeding $300,000.
In addition, police seized more than 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine and MDMA.
Darren Wright, 64, of Rocky View County, has been charged with:
-
Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (two counts);
-
Possession of a forged document (three counts);
-
Fraud (three counts);
-
Altering a vehicle identification number (three counts);
-
Possession of a controlled substance (two counts).
Following a judicial interim release hearing, Wright was released from custody with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on Aug. 18.
“This investigation is a great example of how collaboration between specialized RCMP units leads to meaningful results,” said Insp. Dave Brunner, Cochrane RCMP detachment commander. “Property crime has a real impact on our communities, and our members are committed to identifying prolific offenders and holding them accountable.”
