There has been a lot of success for local golfers of late, including Swift Current's Matty Schmeiss, who qualified for Canadian Junior Nationals.
Schmeiss only realized midway through his final round at Saskatchewan Juniors last week that he had a chance to qualify.
"I thought it was top two to qualify for nationals," Schmeiss said. "Coming down the last couple holes I figured out it was top six and I was in fifth position. I just kept cool and qualified. It feels really great. It's going to be a really good opportunity."
Schmeiss shot 78, 71, and 78 in his three rounds at the Lloydminster Golf & Country Club. His 71 tied a career low.
"It went really good," he said. "The 71, I wasn't even thinking everything happened. I was playing so good. My coach, Jeff Gross, has helped me through everything. He's got my game in really good shape right now.
"I've been seeing improvements everywhere. I'm hitting the ball a lot further. I've been in the gym lately trying to get bigger and stronger. He's improved my mental game too. Everything is just coming together right now."
The Elmwood golfer is really grateful for the support from Gross.
"He's made me also just a better person in general," Schmeiss said. "He's made big impacts everywhere."
He's honoured to represent Saskatchewan at nationals.
"It means everything," Schmeiss said. "I can't even express... it's just going to be so cool."
He plays at nationals in Bathurst, New Brunswick, from August 12th to the 15th.
"I don't have many goals or expectations," Schmeiss said. "Just trying to play my game and have as much fun as possible."
His success was followed by Swift Current's Corey Bailey winning the Saskatchewan Men's Mid-Amateur and finishing second in the full Saskatchewan Amateur, while Kyle's Chloe Wills won the Saskatchewan Women's Amateur.
