The Swift Current Stock Car Racing Association was set for another double-header this past weekend, although Saturday's races and power wheel demolition derby were cancelled due to the rain.
The Swift Current Motor Speedway hosted the stock car races on Friday evening with a full lineup of cars, in addition to the kids' bike races and a visit from the classic Legend Cars.
The feature winners included Quentin Skjerdal in the modifieds, Terry Fehr in the minis, and Ethan Guest in the hobby stocks, while Jason Hankewich secured first place in both the Legends and street stocks.
Kevin Schafer, number 44 in the street stocks, shared that with this being the second weekend in a row to be affected by rain, make-up races are scheduled into October.
"My favourite part of racing is working on the cars for a week or two prior to the races," he said. "Then you get to race and have some fun, and then the social atmosphere afterwards is probably also one of my favourite parts."
The Swift Current Stock Car Racing Association will be back on August 22 and 23 for another double header featuring the Prairie Dirt Racing Association's Tour.
