Bucket lists. Many people have them, but not many include entering a pie-eating contest.

But Jessica Tsang did—and her first crack at downing as much blueberry pie as she could in 30 seconds landed her the top prize during Bragg Creek Days.

This was no willy-nilly effort. She came in with a strategy and even surprised herself by besting the 17 other contestants.

"If you stick your face into the centre of the pie and then you suck out all the insides, it just makes the pie cave in and it makes the rest of it a lot easier to eat," she laughs, still in shock from the victory.

These weren’t just any run-of-the-mill pies. They were baked by Renée Delorme of Bragg Creek Wild, who also joined in as one of the contestants.

The contest played out in three heats of six, with competitors devouring as much as the mini-pies in 30 seconds as possible in front of a packed crowd squeezed into the main stage area.

Tsang had to not only win her heat but also face off against five others in the final.

The pie-eating contest was just one of the many success stories from this year’s Bragg Creek Days, which packed a punch. Hundreds flowed through the area by the Bragg Creek Community Centre all day, following a pancake breakfast by Redwood Meadows Emergency Services and a parade that’s been a Creeker tradition since 1967.

It also marked the debut of the Bragg Creek Foundation – (Not a) Golf Tournament! on July 20 which attracted over 90 players.
