Thunderstorms roared across the southeast over the weekend, bringing a bit of rain to what has been a parching summer so far. Two different systems formed in the area, one hitting on Saturday and another coming through later into Sunday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke takes a look at the data they saw from those storms.
"Over the course of the entire weekend, so Saturday and Sunday in Estevan, our location there has a total of 18.5 millimetres of rain. The heaviest rain was generally west of Estevan, particularly along that Highway 13 corridor."
Broken down by day, Saturday came through with 13.6 millimetres of rain, with Sunday making up the remaining 4.9 millimetres.
While there was plenty of thunder and a good bit of rain, Luke says they didn't see any other severe weather that you might normally expect from a thunderstorm in the southeast.
"I was just looking, we don't really have a ton of hail reports logged at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if we learn about more hail reports today. We don't really have any hail, and we don't have any wind reports across the province either. There's just some small hail from southwestern Saskatchewan on Saturday."
While the southeast was clear, Luke says they're keeping an eye on a pair of tornadoes that may have touched down in the province over the weekend.
"The big story that people are talking about is the two potential tornadoes. So there's a potential tornado report from Saturday that's also in the southwest from Cadillac. And then last night, there was another potential tornado southeast of Saskatoon near Allen, Saskatchewan. That one looks pretty convincing."
Luke says they'll keep an eye on any other storm reports, and advises people to watch out as a severe thunderstorm watch could go out for a system coming into the area tonight and tomorrow.
