The weather threw a few curveballs, but that didn’t stop Westerner Days from delivering five days of fun, connection and community pride. From the first beat of the parade to the final boom of fireworks, Red Deer’s spirit was on full display.
“Westerner Days is a reflection of the community we’re proud to serve. It’s not just about entertainment — it’s about connection,” said Shelly Flint, chief executive officer of Westerner Park.
“We are honoured to host this celebration that brings families, neighbours, businesses and visitors together. It’s our privilege to create a space where Central Alberta’s spirit truly comes alive.”
The week kicked off in true western style with a lively downtown parade. Crowds lined the streets, cheering floats from local organizations, schools and businesses.
At the main stage, the evenings came alive. On Friday, Canadian rock icon Sass Jordan delivered a high-powered, nostalgic set. On Saturday, Alberta’s own Corb Lund took the spotlight, weaving stories and songs that resonated deeply with longtime fans.
The RCMP Musical Ride captivated audiences with its elegance and precision. Each performance was preceded by a demonstration from the RCMP Police Dog Service, showcasing the skill and teamwork behind their vital work. Together, they offered a unique glimpse into the heritage and service behind these symbols of Canadian identity.
One of the most meaningful highlights was the return of the “Share the Fair” visit to Ronald McDonald House. Members of the Musical Ride, alongside other entertainers, brought a taste of the fair to families staying near Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
Westerner Days also welcomed Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who joined the kickoff luncheon as guest of honour. Her presence underscored the pride Albertans feel in celebrating community traditions like Westerner Days.
Each evening ended with fireworks lighting up the sky as families celebrated together. Whether on stage, in the stands or out in the community, Westerner Days brought people together to create moments of joy, pride and shared tradition.
