It was a boot-scootin blast this past weekend at an annual southwest rodeo with eighteen different rough stock, classic, and kids' rodeo events.
The Amateur Hallonquist Rodeo kicked off on Saturday with slack at 9:30 a.m., and the day included live music from The Three Amigos, beer gardens and food trucks on site.
Local 16-year-old, Lane Busse, was named All-Around Cowboy of this year's Hallonquist Rodeo, in addition to securing first in bull riding with a score of 76 and winning cow riding with a score of 67.
Several other local competitors brought home notable achievements, including AJ Ostrander, from Swift Current, who won in tie-down roping with a time of just 8.6 seconds.
Swift Current's Maci Martens won first place in open barrels, with a time of 17.43 seconds on her first run and 16.2 seconds on her second run, for a total of 33.63 seconds. Wylie Martens and Jerry Martens, also from Swift Current, captured first place in junior team roping.
More event winners include:
- Ryan Stolson and Connor Steinbach won in open team roping.
- Shaunavon's Illaina Allemand won in junior barrels.
- Bronx Busse took first in peewee barrels.
- Jacob Drury, all the way from Australia, captured first place in saddle bronc.
- Mackenzie Steinbach from Moose Jaw captured first in breakaway roping.
- Katie Sanford took the win in junior breakaway roping.
- Logan Reesor and Craig Reesor from the Cypress Hills area took first place in the wild cow milking.
- Cohen Haubrich secured first in mutton busting.
- Mankota's Shay Drever won in calf riding.
- Drever, Shayne Horn, and Jesse Busse claimed first place in the wild pony race.
- Jesse also won in junior goat tying.
- Gravelbourg's Chloe Malbeuf and Darcy Neufeld from Val Marie won the hide race.
- Dallas Dustyhorn from Quinton took first place in bareback.
