Shaunavon's Mason Fauser is headed to The Rock.

He's been chosen to play baseball for Team Saskatchewan at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in Newfoundland.

"Worked quite hard throughout the summer to make the team," Fauser said. "It means a lot."

It's the third time Fauser has been able to represent Saskatchewan in national baseball competition.

"It means more than you know," he said. "It's very special being able to represent Team Saskatchewan at the national level."

The power hitter is also a regular starting pitcher for the Swift Current Kal Tire 18U AAA 57's.

He will bring that mix of skills to Team Saskatchewan.

"I was told I might play the field a bit and possibly DH as well," Fauser said. "Possibly relief pitch while I'm there. We'll see how the games go. That's what I'm kind of looking forward to."

It's been an up-and-down summer for the two-sport athlete.

"Really good at the start of the season I was pretty hot at the bat," Fauser said. "I didn't have the best end of the season, but I'm looking to kind of kick start it."

While his hitting has hit a bit of a snag, Fauser has added some variety to his pitching.

"I feel like I've pitched quite well especially in the second half of the season," he said. "I picked up a few extra pitches here halfway through and they've helped me excel my game. I seem to be able to go deep into games."

It's been a balancing act for Fauser who is also a high-level hockey player.

He's a draft pick of the WHL's Swift Current Broncos and was a key piece for the U18 AAA Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires last season.

"It's a grind," Fauser said. "Once your baseball day is over you have to make sure you're preparing for hockey or vice-versa. There's a lot of training for both things. It's worth it in the end and I enjoy both so much."

After scoring 23 goals and adding 20 assists in 42 games for the Legionnaires last season, the power forward has his eyes on cracking a Broncos roster that is getting younger next season.

"I've got some new eyes on me as well as knowing it's going to be a young group this year," Fauser said. "It encourages me more to try and break that seal and make that team.

"I think it just has a lot to do with my compete. Coming into training camp ready and going 100% everywhere I go. Just keeping the pace of play up and showing them what I can do."

On the diamond, Saskatchewan's baseball team finished third in Canada during the 2022 Summer Games. They're aiming higher this year.

"It helps open your eyes and see what we can do as a province," Fauser said. "To try and replicate or beat that this year."

The Canada Summer Games run from August 8th to the 25th in St. John's, Newfoundland.
