Alberta Parks has issued a bear closure and two separate warnings over the past week due to increased grizzly bear activity in Kananaskis Country.
A full area closure was announced on July 15 for Commonwealth Valley and the surrounding area after multiple grizzly bears were spotted. That closure remains in effect until further notice.
A day later, on July 16, a bear warning was issued for the trail network behind the University of Calgary’s Barrier Lake Research Station. The warning affects several popular trails and recreation areas, including Baldy Pass, Lusk Creek, and Stoney Creek.
Most recently, on July 19, a separate bear warning was issued for Troll Falls and surrounding trails, following a reported grizzly bluff charge. The warning applies to lower Skogan, Troll Falls, Hay Meadows, and the south section of Stoney Trail.
