Downtown Red Deer will once again transform into a vibrant hub of entertainment and creativity as the Centrefest Street Performer Festival returns for another year.
Running this weekend (July 26-27) from noon to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, the family-friendly event takes place rain or shine on Ross Street and Little Gaetz Avenue.
From acrobats and magicians to sword swallowers and living statues, Centrefest brings a world of talent to the heart of the city and it's all free to attend.
You can expect to see buskers of all kinds: clowns, musicians, jugglers, and comedians.
Visitors can also explore themed zones like Circus World, Water World, and a bustling Street Market filled with local vendors.
Roving performers will also make surprise appearances throughout the grounds.
While admission is free, Centrefest follows the age-old street performance tradition of “passing the hat.”
Artists rely on audience donations, so spectators are encouraged to show their appreciation with cash bills or change.
Festivalgoers will find free public parking around the downtown area and portable washrooms on-site.
The festival is fully wheelchair accessible, and emergency first-aid services will be available.
To stay comfortable during the festival, organizers recommend wearing sunscreen, hats, and comfortable footwear, as the event takes place on hot asphalt.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring refillable water bottles and refill stations will be available for a small donation, and souvenir bottles can be purchased at Water World.
Those coming to take part in the festival are reminded to;
-
Leave pets at home — paws and hot pavement don’t mix.
-
Walk bikes and carry skateboards within the festival grounds for everyone’s safety.
-
Silence your phone during performances — or risk becoming part of the act.
-
Respect local businesses by not blocking doorways or storefronts.
-
Be courteous to fellow festivalgoers and avoid smoking in crowded areas.
