The Moose Jaw Police Service is alerting residents to a STARS Lottery phone scam that is once again making it rounds in Moose Jaw.
The scam will have a caller claiming to represent STARS Air Ambulance and they explain to the victim that they have won a new vehicle or a cash prize, ranging from $30,000 to $350,000.
The caller will attempt to manipulate people by falsely claiming they have won an extravagant prize and asking them to send payment in order to claim their prize.
Residents are reminded that you will never be asked to send money to claim any lottery prize. If you are asked to send a cheque, money order, or payment of any kind to claim your lottery prize, it is a scam.
If you do receive one of these scams, hang up or delete the email immediately and do not click on any links.
If you are unsure, reach out to STARS directly to verify if you have won or if the lottery is legitimate.
In some instances, the fraudster will ask for payment via gift cards. Residents are reminded to not provide the scammer with the access codes for the gift cards under any circumstance. You are also reminded to not provide personal information such as your Social Insurance Number or banking details over the phone.
