The Saskatchewan RCMP have released more details about the dangerous person alert that was sent out this morning.

Punnichy RCMP responded to a report of an armed person at a residence on Muskowekwan First Nation at approximately 2 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, a gun was fired, and an officer was hit. The officer was taken to hospital with injuries that are described as non-life-threatening.

The suspect then left the residence on foot. Police say there were other people in the house, but no physical injuries were reported.

At around 6:36 a.m., the RCMP issued a dangerous person alert for the Muskowekwan First Nation and the surrounding area.

The Saskatchewan RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team found the suspect at a rural location near Lestock, Sask. Police contained the area and, at around 8:50 a.m., police took the suspect into custody and the dangerous person alert was cancelled.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section has now taken carriage of the ongoing investigation. No charges have been laid at this time, and police do not believe there is any further danger to the public.
