It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emma Wilhelmina Phillips–Powell, aged 89 years, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Emma Wilhelmina Albert was born on the family farm in Bismark, a district of Ponoka, Alberta, on May 26, 1936. She met her first husband, Harry Phillips, while working in Red Deer, Alberta, and they were married on August 31, 1957. In 1961, Emma and Harry moved to Saskatchewan to assist with the Phillips family farm in the R.M. of Clinworth, Scepter district. They later purchased the farm, where they built their life together until Harry’s passing in 1991.
During this time, Emma devoted herself to family and community. In addition to farming and gardening, she volunteered with many local clubs and organizations, and together they welcomed 15 foster children into their home over the course of 12 years.
In 1992, Emma met Bill Powell, and they were married on August 13, 1993. With Bill’s encouragement, Emma moved to Cantuar, SK, where they continued farming alongside her son John.
Emma is lovingly remembered by her daughter Brenda, her son John (friend Jacquie), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Otto and Hulda Albert, husbands Harry Phillips and William Powell, sister and brother-in-law Annalisa and Kenneth Siebold, and son-in-law Richard Bates.
A private interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Emma’s memory may do so to the Alzheimer’s Society.
