Categories

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens Hockey program will have a new coach behind the bench beginning in the 2025–26 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.

Brett Wold, a former student-athlete on the RDP Kings Hockey team, will take over the reins following the departure of Kelly Coulter.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brett back to the Polytechnic,” says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic.

“As an alum, Brett is very familiar with the culture of excellence that defines RDP Athletics and our institution. His ability to communicate effectively and inspire student-athletes will be instrumental in helping the Queens reach new heights.”

Wold’s connection to Red Deer Polytechnic began in 2013 when he joined the Kings Hockey team as a student-athlete, competing for two seasons.

Originally from Westlock, Alberta, Wold brings extensive experience and a commitment to mentorship in his new role.

“I am excited to join RDP Athletics as the head coach of the Queens Hockey team,” says Wold, currently a hockey instructor at Notre Dame Hockey Academy in Red Deer.

“I am committed to creating an environment where every student-athlete grows daily — in the classroom, on the ice and in the community. I want Red Deer Polytechnic to be a place where the Queens love coming to the rink, support each other like family and leave their legacy. Together, we’ll build a culture that will make past, current and future players proud to have worn the crown logo.”

Wold has a distinguished coaching resumé. He has held multiple assistant coaching roles and served as head coach at the 2019 Alberta Challenge, a core Hockey Alberta Female Development program.

From 2019 to 2024, he led the Female Midget AAA Red Deer Sutter Fund Optimist Chiefs, guiding the team to a provincial championship in 2023.

That same year, Wold was selected to coach Team Alberta’s U18 Female Hockey team at the Canada Winter Games.

His superb leadership earned him the 2021–22 Alberta Female Hockey League Coach of the Year, a testament to his commitment to athlete development and excellence.

Wold will officially begin his role as RDP Queens Hockey Head Coach on July 30, 2025.
