Organizers of the Cochrane Terry Fox Run are encouraging residents to mark what would have been Terry Fox’s 67th birthday by wearing their favourite Terry Fox T-shirt today.

Terry Fox history book cover
A history of Cochrane's involvement in the Terry Fox Run was documented in a booklet prepared by Judy Stewart and Grace Atkin.

Fox was born July 28, 1958, in Winnipeg, Man., and died of cancer on June 28, 1981. His legacy continues to inspire Canadians through his Marathon of Hope, which has raised over $850 million for cancer research.

As part of the tribute, the Terry Fox Foundation has released a short two-minute video titled Finish It, which organizers hope residents will take time to watch.

It can be found here

Organizers have also been collecting short essays — up to 45 words in length — on the theme What Terry Fox Means to Me, in honour of the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run. They hope to compile and publish the responses as part of this year's campaign.

This year’s run in Cochrane is set for Sunday, Sept. 14. The local fundraising goal is $33,143, and donations can be made directly through the Cochrane Terry Fox Run page on the Terry Fox Foundation website.
