The future of farming takes center stage at the AgSmart Expo, a three-day educational expo running tomorrow through Thursday (July 29–31) at the Olds College campus.

Presented by Agri-Trade Equipment Expo, the event offers a hands-on, in-depth look at the latest technologies, innovations, and data-driven solutions transforming Canadian agriculture. 

AgSmart draws progressive producers, industry experts, and innovators for a packed schedule of field demonstrations, workshops, exhibits, and speaker sessions, all designed to explore the rapidly evolving ag tech and livestock landscape. 

Highlights of AgSmart 2025: 

  • Live Field Demonstrations – Get up close with the newest equipment, drones, and AI-driven technologies at the Olds College Smart Farm. 

  • Expanded Livestock Programming – Featuring breed displays, UAVs in pasture management, genomic tools, and smart ranching innovations through the Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production. 

  • Hands-on Workshops – From precision planting and crop diagnostics to livestock health and soil/tissue testing, (July 31 is dedicated to interactive learning.)

  • Smart Farm Innovations – Explore real-world applications of automation, data management, and connectivity in modern agriculture. 

  • Enhanced Indoor/Outdoor Venues – With expanded exhibit space in the Alumni Centre and shuttle service to field sites, attendees can easily access every corner of the event. 

Special Event: Mental Health in Agriculture 

A key feature of this year’s programming is "The Dish: Deep Rooted", a candid session addressing the mental health challenges faced by Canadian farmers.

Taking place Tuesday, July 29 from 1:00–3:15 p.m. at The Hive, the event includes: 

  • Screening of “Deep Rooted”, a 33-minute documentary spotlighting producers’ struggles with anxiety, depression, and stigma. 

  • Panel discussion with Linda Hunt (AgKnow/ARECA), Kevin Chanut (AFSC), and Sean Stanford (Alberta Grains), moderated by Kaitlyn Kitzan (The Do More Agriculture Foundation). 

  • Opening remarks from AFSC CEO Darryl Kay. 

  • Community reception to follow. 

Admission is free with an AgSmart pass and seating is first come first served.
