Cochrane ball player Maeve Maguire is returning to the diamond to represent Alberta in the Baseball Canada 19U Women’s National Championship.

Team Alberta opens the tournament against Manitoba at noon on July 31 at AGAT Field, a showcase stadium at Webber Academy Athletic Park on Lower Springbank Road.

Maguire, 18, is pencilled in to play second and third base on the 15-player roster.

Alberta will go on to face Newfoundland and Labrador, then Saskatchewan, in the preliminary round. The medal round is set for Aug. 3.

Maguire came up through the ranks of Cochrane Minor Ball and has previously represented Alberta on several occasions.

Last summer was a busy one for her, competing in two national baseball championships for Alberta as well as the U19B Western Canadian Softball Championship with Calgary’s South Bow River Rockies.

She helped bring home a silver medal from the 16U national championship in Saskatoon, SK. Maguire was named MVP of their opening game after sending one over the fence on just her second pitch.

Her second national championship was with Team Alberta in the women's national tournament in Quebec City.
