A warrant has been issued for a man who resisted arrest, assaulted Lacombe police officers and fled the scene in his vehicle.

On July 28 at about 12:44 a.m., members of the Lacombe Police Service conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Ram truck travelling eastbound on Highway 12 at 58th Street in Lacombe.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Aaron Olson of Tofield, Alta., was observed driving erratically and operating the vehicle at inconsistent speeds.

Police say officers noted signs of impairment and saw an open alcoholic beverage within the driver’s reach. While attempting to search the vehicle, Olson became non-compliant and physically combative.

During the incident, he resisted arrest, assaulted two officers and attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle. Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon and OC spray, but Olson was able to escape in the truck at high speed, posing a risk to public safety.

Officers from the Blackfalds, Red Deer and Ponoka RCMP detachments assisted in efforts to locate Olson. His abandoned vehicle was later found in a rural area near Ponoka.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Despite aerial drone surveillance and the use of Police Dog Services, Olson was not found.

He is now charged with:

  • Two counts of assaulting a peace officer;

  • Two counts of resisting arrest;

  • One count of flight from a peace officer;

  • One count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); and

  • One count of mischief under $5,000.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Olson is described as approximately six feet tall and 122 kilograms, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

If you see him, do not approach. Contact Lacombe Police Service at 403-782-3279, your local police, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at http://www.p3tips.com.
