Sunshine, sizzling burgers, and local pride were on full display today at Canuckcade Rentals, as Estevan came together once again for another successful Taste of Summer Charity BBQ.

This week’s BBQ raised an impressive $1,675.00, all in support of Estevan Minor Football, showing just how much the community backs its youth athletes.

Today’s event featured a special guest, young Estevan Minor Football player Carson, a defensive tackle with the Oilers, who took a break from prepping for the season to share his experience and excitement for football on the Discover Estevan airwaves.

Carson is gearing up for his second season on the gridiron after what he called a “pretty fun” rookie year. “Playing with all the people last year, it was a really good experience,” he said. “The connections you make with the people you're playing with, that’s probably my favorite part.”

Over the summer, Carson took part in a high school training camp that gave him a preview of the next level of competition. “That was pretty fun. I got to play and learn a lot of stuff that will help me going into high school,” he said, adding that the speed and intensity were definitely a step up.

The young defensive tackle says he’s most excited to meet new teammates and hopefully bring home a win this coming season.

Along with the burgers and community spirit, the BBQ continued to raise funds for local causes, with volunteers flipping patties and serving up smiles. One volunteer joked he’s grilled “over a thousand burgers in the last six weeks,” earning the unofficial title of Master of Meat.

As always, the Taste of Summer BBQ offered more than just good food, it gave Estevan another reason to come together, support local youth, and celebrate the spirit of community.
