Environment Canada has issued a heat warning across parts of Central Alberta.
Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius, with overnight lows ranging from 14 to 18 degrees, are expected to continue through the rest of the week.
Environment Canada says the current heat warnings are expected to end this weekend, as daytime temperatures return to the mid-20s.
Residents and visitors in affected areas are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and others.
People are encouraged to reschedule outdoor activities to cooler times of the day, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded spaces, and stay hydrated with water and non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages.
Officials also urge drivers to check for children or pets before exiting a vehicle, and never leave anyone inside a closed vehicle, even for a short time.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke can include a high body temperature, confusion, fainting, lack of sweating and loss of consciousness.
