Redwood Meadows is among more than 40 communities receiving provincial funding to celebrate Alberta Day between Aug. 29 and Sept. 1.
Alberta was officially established as a province on Sept. 1, 1905, through the Alberta Act. Now marked annually as Alberta Day, it's a chance to reflect on 120 years of history, recognize the province’s Indigenous roots, and honour the spirit and achievements of Albertans.
“This Alberta Day marks 120 years since Alberta became a province," states Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women, in a new release. "It will be an unforgettable day celebrating this major milestone, and the people and traditions that have shaped this amazing province and Alberta's rich history within Canada.”
This year, Alberta’s government is encouraging a full day of celebrations to honour the province’s entrepreneurial spirit, values of grit and determination, and enduring belief in opportunity.
Major festivities take place Aug. 31, with events planned at the legislature grounds in Edmonton and Heritage Park in Calgary. Albertans can expect live cultural music and dance, children’s activities, local food trucks, artisan vendors, and more—all free of charge.
The province says Alberta Day is also a time to honour the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for the land for generations and whose contributions continue to shape Alberta’s identity.
