A newly recruited cardiologist is now practising at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, enhancing cardiac care for residents of Red Deer and surrounding areas.

Dr. Ahmad Shoaib provides a full spectrum of services in general cardiology and cardiac imaging at both Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and the Healthy Heart Institute in Red Deer.

He specializes in complex coronary procedures, including left mainstem and bifurcation disease, using advanced imaging techniques such as intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography and adult echocardiography. His clinical practice covers a wide range of conditions, including ischemic heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure and valvular heart disease.

“We are excited to welcome this exceptional physician to our local care team,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services and MLA for Red Deer-North. “His extensive expertise and dedication to advancing cardiac care will greatly benefit our community.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome this esteemed physician,” added Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “His cardiac expertise and unwavering commitment to patient care will greatly strengthen health services across Red Deer and the surrounding area.”

Dr. Shoaib started his medical education in Pakistan, completed specialized training in cardiology and general internal medicine in the U.K., and holds a Doctorate in Heart Failure from the University of Hull, with research focused on acute heart failure.

He has completed fellowships in interventional cardiology in both the U.K. and Canada, published more than 58 peer-reviewed articles, and serves as an honorary associate professor at Aston University in Birmingham, U.K., mentoring students and junior doctors.

Before coming to Canada, Dr. Shoaib served as a consultant cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust in the U.K.

Dr. Shoaib was drawn to Red Deer by its strong sense of community, growing healthcare infrastructure, and the opportunity to contribute to the region’s expanding cardiac services.

“I’m excited to be part of this vibrant community and to play a role in advancing cardiac care in central Alberta,” said Dr. Shoaib. “The upcoming cardiac catheterization lab project is a significant step forward, and I look forward to contributing to its success.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Shoaib enjoys reading, travelling, playing cricket and spending time with family.
